First tool to prospectively measure operational, financial impact of radiology clinical decision support debuts from MedCurrent at RSNA 2015

MEDIA ADVISORY - November 30, 2015

You’re a hospital executive, and this year’s budget includes a new MRI... Yet will you need it when your clinical decision support (CDS) system is in place?   What if you could prospectively see CDS-driven data and measure shifts in volume and modality use?  The machine may not be needed.

Debuting at RSNA 2015. . . a first-of-its-kind tool that helps prospectively measure operational and financial shifts that will occur with use of a CDS. The EHR-add-on tool analyzes incoming orders and matches them with orders that are likely to be placed when the CDS is in use. CIOS, CMIOS, radiology chiefs, and radiologists can get an estimate of:

  • how many fewer studies are likely to be done (by modality)
  • shifts that will happen across various modalities (i.e.; fewer CTs and more ultrasounds)
  • the financial impact of the CDS system

The PAMA mandate is still looming. To effectively plan for staffing, capital equipment and more, strategic planners and project/team leaders must better understand CDS-driven changes in volume and workflow. Major dollars are at stake, as is the opportunity to minimize radiation exposure among patients.
