Founded in 2005 by a practicing Toronto-based radiologist, MedCurrent provides clinical decision support (CDS) software for medical imaging, with a solution that can be readily adapted for other clinical areas such as lab and cardiology. MedCurrent is at RSNA in the South - Hall A: Booth #2972.

The MedCurrent CDS solution for radiology integrates with EHR, RIS, CPOE and other systems and uses rule sets to analyze and rank the appropriateness of a provider’s order for a diagnostic imaging exam. The software delivers easy-to -feedback recommendations for considering for a more appropriate procedure as well as information about the urgency of obtaining the study, the amount of  radiation exposure, the cost and, importantly, if the test has been recently performed.  MedCurrent CDS v3.0 is being unveiled at RSNA 2015

The company will unveil a new solution at RSNA 2015.  MedCurrent Impact is a first-of-its-kind, EHR-add-on tool that helps organizations prospectively understand the impact and ROI of implementing mandated clinical decision support. The solution's data analytics engine and interactive ROI calculator provide information about projected shifts in modality volume, enabling the organization to understand better the impact of implementing CDS on workflow, staffing, equipment needs and more.  The resulting knowledge can bolster strategic planning initiatives for radiology and also assist with planning for enterprise-wide use of clinical decisions support.

MedCurrent's software improves medical practice – clinically, operationally and financially. It is one of the first radiology CDS systems on the market.

NOTE:  The CMS recently postponed its mandate that hospitals and imaging centers use a radiology CDS by January 1, 2017. Analysts anticipate a new deadline in summer or fall  2017. Research has demonstrated the ability of CDS to reduce the number of inappropriate exams, thereby improving quality, reducing costs and reducing unnecessary exposure to radiation.
